Marshall park lads played a tough game today away to a team well known to us. Morley Bridge FC who were at top of the league having played 4 games.

We started off on the front foot with Marshall creating a few chances with the ball being played on the floor. Yet our opponents kept playing a physical game plus ‘long ball’ trying to catch our back 4 off guard with the bounce of the ball.

However Captain Ben Walker and the other defenders played extremely well. Mopping up the balls over the top. With James Bedford playing well sat in front of the back 4. The 1st half ended up being very scrappy with little chances although Marshall had created the better of the chances.

2nd half Morley Bridge FC changed a few players and there formation to counterattack our set up. However Kevin Thompson shuffled the pack by bringing on subs and changing formation to have more strength and attacking options on the wings.

It took a ball from Mark Atkinson through to Chris Hargreaves who got a flick of a header onto Cameron Wilson who saw the Morley Bridge goal Keeper off his line to flick the ball over him for it to eventually land Into the net…

That was the breakthrough 1-nil to Marshall park.

Morley kept trying to hit us on the break with a few weak opportunities at Mark our keeper. A few corners but Marshall was always a threat, with us having 2-3 excellent opportunities to put the game to bed.

All in all a hearty & spirited performance from ALL the team. All subs playing significant parts in the game too.
