We had a week off league games as we played in the Les Greenwood Cup.
The game started well. Marshall Park on the front foot straight from kick off. Playing nice passes through the defence and creating a few chances but no goals. Gotts Park had a few flurries but nothing to cause us any major problems.
Our first goal came around 20 mins in when Matty Fannon was played down the middle. It was a tight angle to shoot from so decided to left foot cross it and Mccauley Elliott was there to tap it in to make it 1-0 Marshall. Gotts park then created a couple of chances but nothing clear cut. Marshall Park made the game 2-0 not long after when Shaun Jackson was played down the left side after a lovely passing move. Shaun crossed the ball outside of his foot which just missed Mattys foot but Nathaniel Brazier was on hand behind him to tap it into an empty net. Natty with 4 goals in 4 games..
Natty has a shot from out side of the penalty area for it to bounce off the cross bar. An Excellent effort unlucky not to go in.
Just before half time Marshall made the score 3-0 as Chris Hargreaves with a high press wining the ball off the Gotts Park winger to whip in a cross for Macca to finish a composed move after taking it round a couple of defenders and nicely slotting it past the keeper.
HT 3-0
Gotts park came flying out of the block in the second half and got 2 quick goals to make it 3-2. The first one took an unlucky bounce in the box off the hard turf which bounced over Christian’s hands and into the goal. There second was a lovely left foot volley no keeper would have saved it.
After that Marshall Park managed to calm the game again, gain steady control making a few substitutions. With good strength in depth and quality on the bench it helped us with fresh legs get fully ontop of the game again.
With around 15mins of the game to go Macca was fouled just outside the box. Macca stepped up to take the free kick and slot it past the wall into the bottom corner of the net. 4-2 Marshall Park.
Marshall Park was able to see the game out. Another solid performance overall. Great team efforts and win in the cup.
