Marshall Park 2-2 Barnoldswick Town Reserves

Both teams started off very well confident, comfortable on the ball. Both teams creating chances. Christian pulling off some good saves. Some good saves by Barnoldswick keeper too keeping it 0-0.
The breakthrough came around 22 minutes into the game from Barnoldswick when there were a couple of shots from their attackers.
Which resulted in one of them deflecting off one of Marshall’s player nicely into path for the Barnoldswick striker to slot the ball into the back of the net. 1-nil to Barnoldswick…
Barnoldswick got a free kick given to them on edge of the box. Player Dipped the shot to the right hand side of goal Christian Lloyd dived and tipped it round the post full stretch. Excellent save….
Marshalls heads did not drop, we carried on playing our football with Minutes before half time and Marshall’s equaliser came… Some nice pressing from Mark Atkinson and Chris Hargreaves which led to Chris sliding the ball through the defenders to Matty Fannon who slightly hesitated at first thinking he was offside but realised he wasn’t and sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 1-1…

Second half Marshall came out a lot stronger than Barnoldswick and kept creating chances. Marshall then took the lead around 65 mins in when Matty put a cross in and it was flicked on towards goal with keeper beaten. Barnoldswick defender on goal line kicked the ball to clear for it to hit his colleague in defence and land into the back of the net. Own goal made it 2-1 to Marshall.
Barnoldswick then because very aggressive in attack and making a couple of subs. Marshall still holding ground and playing some good football.
Out of nothing really the ref awarded Barnoldswick a penalty from what appeared to us as a good solid tackle by Matthew Judd. The Barnoldsiwck player scored the penalty just out of reach of Christian who dived the right way.
The game ended 2-2 at 90minutes.
Penalty time.. With both teams scoring and both keepers pulling off saves… Christian pulling off three quality saves. With Shaun Jackson stepping up to take our 8th sudden death penalty. Straight down the middle with Barnoldswick keeper getting his foot to the ball but the power of the shot got the ball over the line into net..
Marshall came out on top winning 8-7 on penalties.
We march on into next round of the cup to play Byram Park FC Saturday 6th December at 2pm at Home.
